[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hartenfels Castle has a remarkable freestanding spiral staircase. It doesn't photograph well because the housing is somewhat deteriorated. But I found the pattern made by the underside of the stone staircase rather interesting -- I stood underneath it, boosted the ISO to 1000 and shot straight up to get this image. The higher ISO does not do justice to most shots, but with a pattern like this, it works reasonably well.

For this version, I took to heart the kind suggestions of my very wise critique writers.

I went back to the original and boosted the saturation of the raw file to 66%.
Then I opened the new jpg image and carefully cloned the edge of the staircase into the white space, making adjustments as I went to disguise the cloning, replacing some obvious patterns with new cloned bits.
I did the same with the light bit near top centre.
I recropped the image to remove the bit on the left and keep just the spiral. This means that the centre of the whorl is farther off the hitpoint but it still seems to work.
I then signed it again and faded the sign layer

Hi Silke!
I would call this image "large scale macro" - is just intriguing and makes suggestions that this is something else instead of staircase - at miniature it look like some kind of large tropical leaf.
Anyway this work is very nice as it is - if that was me... probably I'll look for wider composition what doesn't mean to be better one.
Image is very good to observe and study, technically... my opinion is this: colour saturation improved vision, light management is perfect only I would ask for much more contrast - that will reveal even more details and improved deep looking forward to background.

What a great abstract Silke,on viewing the thumbnail, I really had no idea what this structure was, Definately an interesting design taken from this angle,good eye indeed. I wondered if the material was of marble construction? I liked how your watermark blends so well,I thought at first it was the builders name, until I made out your well known signature.
