I don't do a lot of people shots because I don't like having the camera pointed at me either. This is one of two shots of the same person, a musician playing for spare change in front of the church where Bach was once the primary musician.
I was trying to capture the mood more than the person, hence the deliberately large space in front of him - a space that is desperately unpeopled - to capture the desperation of a man who may not see a great deal of money in a day.

Composed in camera (placing the instrument in the hit point), captured in raw, minor adjustments to saturation, converted to jpg, resized sharpened edges and signed for posting

Thanks so much for looking and for any suggestions you may have for improvement (P.S. a posting of the musician himself will follow in a few days)

Dear Silke,

A well caught daily-life scene with such great sharpness and from a very well chosen POV!
the friendly expressions of the musician make this work even stronger.
The colors contrast to teh surroundings is well shown and exposure is nicely handled.
The arrangement of the stones on the ground adds to the artistic appeal of the picture.

A pity that the wheel of a bicycle is emerging on the far left of the picture.

Well caught!

Paras :-)

Ol Silke,
A common scene that gains artistic level by technical competence and ability to see. beautiful DOF.
Compliments,
R.

Hello Silke
A nice shot of daily life on the streets of Leipzig where you beautifully framed the tree on the left with good DOF to show the details of both the musician and the BG street activity..
Best Wishes
mushtaq

I guess one can find street musicians anywhere in the world like in Leipzig or Las Vegas. It's nice though and cheap entertainment. Nicely captured with good use of natural light. Good dof with sharp details. Well done, tfs.

Nice shot Silke. So sharp with lovely lighting and a great composition. His position in the frame is perfect. Beautiful natural tones. TFS, Lori

Hi Silke...I like your shot and the composition around the musician....If you have CS5 please try the adjustment brush to lighten the man's face...this could also be done with layer masks..nice work.

Roger

I love these "man-on-the-street" shots. You handled the "shadows" extremely well, it would have been so easy to blast out the bricks! A slight tilt here, I prefer it over a straight line shot!
