Fort Louvois (also called "Fort Chapus") is a fortification located on the rock Chapus, facing the citadel of "Château d'Oléron" sea in the town of "Bourcefranc-le-Chapus" and islands belonging to the Charente in the department of Charente-Maritime, France.
Last fortification maritime commissioned by Louis XIV to defend against incursions by the openings of enemy ships, it is located between the island of Oléron and the mainland, and locks the access roads to the south of Rochefort.

Project initiated by the Marquis de Louvois, Minister of War, its implementation was entrusted to the engineer François Ferry. On the death of Louvois, Vauban reduced ambition and limit the construction part of the oval planned to give final shape of a horseshoe.

The fort was built in the eighteenth century to keep pace with advances in weaponry, including reducing the number of embrasures ten of the sixteen originally built, and takes its final form.

Armed with guns and howitzers in the nineteenth century, it retains a garrison and military potential.

Historical monument since June 14, 1929, he was severely bombed during World War II during the liberation of Marennes September 10, 1944. Purchased from the Central Administration of the Common Areas Bourcefranc-le-Chapus, it is completely restored under the direction of the DRAC in the 1960s.

Fort Louvois houses since 1972 the Museum of oyster and a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of the fort, including models of fortifications composed of coastal Charente.

Wonderfully composed shot.....love those leading lines.
Would you consider cropping a bit from the top?

belle composition de l'image
cette jetée de pierre semble immense; éloigne-t-elle le fort plus que de réalité de part le cadrage? en tout cas cela donne quand même envie d'y aller!
