My new toy! ;-)
hi Eric, congratulations, D70 it is a nice camera, you'll have a lot of fun.
and 50mm f1.8 is a nice simple lens, but using it you must be really careful. why? shallow DOF, like here - only the nose is sharp, in the focus, eyes are too soft. using such shallow DOF you should focus on eyes next time ;) anyway, nice picture, nice compo
Eric, first I'm glad to hear that you are happy with your new Nikon D70, great camera.
Yes, I agree with you this is really a great shot, I like the way you composed it with the two statues, the two contarsing colours give it a great deal of character, although I would have liked to see it cropped a little more on the left, to remove some of that dark shadow. But otherwise well captured, and yes, I think you might do pretty well making portraits. ;-)
This is really good! I told you about the marvels of D70 an dthe 50 mm lens. Your composition is very unique. Putting one n the foreground and tghe other in the background provides a lot of dynamics. I like your choice of focus: he nose. Somehow, images of Buddha has the nose as their focal point. I also like your lighting (was it window lighting).
This is just the start...

Excellent start with your new camera Eric. I think this is a good experimentation with DOF. I also like how the statue in the background is so closely related to the one in the foreground. I think perhaps Maciek is right that a little more DOF would be helpful, but this looks awfully good as it is, and I think you could say you passed your experiment with flying colors.
Congratulations on the new camera, you will love it I am sure.
ben dis donc, tu as un nouvel appareil??

hi Eric ..the way you composed them almost animated the statues (gave life to them)...I like this feeling it gives to me..I cannot comment about the focus or technique as a disabled person:) but I am happy to have leraned about 50mm...

Congrats on the new gear! Nice first post as well...the DOF is simply magnificent. Composition is very exciting and makes me focus on all the most important aspects of the shot. Well done.

Another great shot Eric, you show you are definitely loving your new toy! Well done.
Your photo is perfect
Good work and congrats for your new camera!

Got one too, just like yours but no 50mm. I'm in the same state like you, I can do this and that, and try this and that.
With this one, you did very good!
Good combination of the various browns and a nice face to look at. Some statues can look so grumpy.

Your DOF is superb, Eric!
I love the soft blur over the face of the statue in the foreground, giving a peaceful expression to its face..
Also the colors of the hole composition are really a beauty, so calm.
Great photo Eric.
This is amazing, I just can't look at it enough! The contrast between the two are so subtle, but at they same time so strong and different. I adore this photo. The differences and similarities are all bordered by the white, it's so refreshing! Fantastic!
