....after rain ....This is a view of some of the inspiring and stunning houses found along the numerous lanes in the old town , i asked my wife to walk down the lane for scale reference , well they are huge ! We had found adequate protection from a very heavy and sudden downpour accompanied with thunder and lightning under the protruding eave of the yellow house to the right.I relate to the long moments of the wait there looking at this photo....
Bulgaria's second city Plovdiv has a long history , a rich cultural life and a host of attractions to make tourists ( like me ) very happy .The city is located on both sides of the Maritza river and built on picturesque hills ( 'Tepe 'as these are called by local people ).There is a kind of magic walking in the old part of town as visitors enjoy the steep cobbled streets and lanes with bow-windows and eaves above them .The Renaissance town of old Plovdiv was built in the 19th century , today it has survived as a unique architectural ensemble on these hills , the brillant architecture with its noble ,stylish simplicity could be rightfully called the 'Baroque 'of Plovdiv .The old town is preserved and restored ( restoration still goes on ...at times painfully ...) as a large open museum with over 150 monuments of culture-houses from the National Revival period. Some have been turned into galleries, museums , workshops , restaurants and even pubs . One of them is named after French poet Alphonse de Lamartine who stayed here a few days in 1833 but the list goes on ...
Just fell in love with this city and hopefully will return some day , one of my favorite places in Bulgaria,
Thank you for looking,
Carol

Hi Carol,

I'm glad you asked your wife to walk down the lane. It really makes a difference to see the actual perspective in size. Those are huge houses. The muted tones of the homes is really nice as are the worn spots of age. Really shows their character.I find the architectural design unusual. It looks like a terrific place for photography.

thanks Carol, Lisa

Very nice shot. Great colours and good composition. Your wife walking in the lane was a good idea.

Hello,

Ces belles façades sont superbes, quel cadrage, de belles teintes et le pavage qui brille, mangigique.

Bravo et amitié

Nicou

Do like the lines in the composition, the colours.
I was thinking about the POV : maybe more to the left ?
But then that window in the left upper corner would be
" cut ". So, that's no option.
To me it wasn't necessary to call the wife to duty :-)
because the road and the lines of the houses are leading
the way. But, always nice to meet the wife too :-)

My " but " is the sky and that green ( tree ? ) on the roof.
If I would print this photo, I would PS-it.

TFS
See you later,
Jan

Hi, Carol! I think you've catched the spirit of the place with this perfect composition. The old Plovdiv is a place which combine history and and contemporal life and events. I can see that in this photo :)

A very interesting place with very nice, and colorful, architecture. I like the addition of the lone child walking. TFS and have a happy day!

Hello Carol
Wonderful place , i was think this kind of building only in Egypt, but i see it's every where,in this kind of building you can talk with your neighbor like you are in his home and even you can loan one Cigarette from him in the Blkouna , as we do in Egypt
pretty POV and excellent colors.
Best Wishes
Maged

Bonjour Carol
Robert
