[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A week ago today, I met up with Jan and David in the beautiful city of Leuven.
The weather forecast was not that great, though the morning looked promising... So we walked through the city towards the Great Beguinage (Groot Begijnhof), had something to eat, and then it started raining. Our luck... it didn't stop anymore :o§

So we were forced to sit at a pavement café, under a nice thick XXL-umbrella, chatting, enjoying a couple of nice Belgian Beers, and also something I'm not really used to: taking shots of people as they hurriedly walked by the café.

This elder lady is one of my favourites; I liked the way she took every possible precaution to stop her hair from getting wet: she carried a large umbrella, and a plastic hair cover under it ☺^☺. On top of that, she just walked under a large XXL-umbrella of which you can just make out a flap in the top right corner. Nice detail: on that XXL-umbrella was an ad for the famous "Duvel" beer ("Devil").

Tech talk

Straightened and cropped slightly.

Adjustment layers for levels and curves.

Some minor clone work.

Downsized and framed with some home cooked PS actions.

Bonjour Frank,

Hans

Maybe she wanted to make sure she was dry Frank :). I like the crop you did here and your PP work certainly brought out good colour and detail. As always good tech notes which are appreciated.
David

Regarding colour v B&W, I agree but the theme came up and it was something I have never fathomed.

Hello Frank
Funny capture.Thanks for the note.
Friendly greetings
J.Diogo

Bonsoir,
Corinne

Too bad we can't see the logo,

I would enter this one in a special theme, including as well today,s post from Martin . I am sure you will love the contrasts between the two shots ....

Well seen Frank ! Great focus too , it must have been taken early in the afternoon (^_*). Another beer logo from another cafe that we have a glimpse in the BG. ( Lowenbräu ? )

Funny capture indeed , despite the poor lady does not seem to enjoy the inclement weather.

Well spotted !

Cheers!
Robert

Nog gezien maar nooit zo humoristisch bekeken !
mooi en scherp !

Nice DoF and colours - the cloudy day seems to emphasize the colours and make them pop. A like the determined way she is holding the umbrella close to her head so that no rain can blow under it and get her head wet. She is surely well protected with such a big brolly.
Nice one Frank.
Cheers Joan

Els

Excellent portrait on the street

hi Frank..
i really like the focus here.. with colours is really effective.. a nice intuition.. and a good idea with title!! well done my friend!! thanks
ciao Marco

You can never be too careful...
This image makes me think of a song by J. Brel: "Les Bigottes".
Probably because I imagine this lady to walk in small steps.
You made a good choice for the DOF.

It's a good photo,
Thx.

Hi Frank
Thos candid shots are really interesting. They bring out the deeper feelings of people and how they build a protective wall around themselves for protection.
Well done and TFS
Argiris
