Brugge [a smile to Dingo!]

In previous notes I already wrote that TL is more than only about pictures. Indeed the goal of TL is not to make friends, but to show en critique pictures all over the world. Nevertheless the philosophy of the Green Baron is the combination: presenting pictures improve my photography (if already possible) and make friends all over the world. That happened to me in Brugge were I met Frank [Dingo] who has a different look at photography as I have and that's the nice thing, different opinion but respecting each other.

The photo is taken almost on the same position, only from a different direction as this posting from Brugge.

Regarding the presentation of this picture, I might be not my real stile: no large frame, but it is a smile to Frank; for one issue we disagreed: frames. So as tribute to my Belgium friend Frank special for him a picture from Brugge without a large frame. (For me it is without any frame; what you see are only small lines at the edge of the photo.

Cheers Frank! ;-)

Hi Hans,

Wonderful ancient feeling buildings .. Their restful meditative quality is amplified by the tone, the water, and the "V" of the composition. Very nice.

take care,

Nice warm colors in the stones and on the roofs. Nice point of view on the canal and with the church in the background. Well done.

Hello Hans,

Such a fantastic view point has been chosen for this lovely take my friend. Fine details on architecture of the building is enhancing the charm of vision. Excellent moment has been caught, well done.

Thanks for sharing this image.

Hi Hans,

Very nice POV and well composed. The lighting is nice and mellow and the colors natural. The DOF, detail and sharpness very good.
I agree with your note that TL is more than only pictures, friendships were made and our common hobby was enjoyed.

Typical Brugge.
Altijd goed voor mooie plaatjes, Hans.
Voor mij had deze iets minder scherp gemogen.

Hurrah for Dingo - I prefer a smaller frame too Hans - that way we can see more of the view.
But each to their own...
It's a lovely view of Brugge - But I find it so strange to see the water lapping the buildings. You should be pleased with this. Great result.

Well, cheers Hans! I don't think my view on photography is that different from yours, but we definitely disagree about how a picture should be framed, or what the function of a frame actually is. On TL I usually find big frames distracting. Moreover, the bigger the frame the less pixels you've left for showing what you want to show: the actual picture.
I also told you that in the end I never let a frame influence my appreciation of a photo; I look beyond it.
This being said, I like the view on Brugge which you present here. Excellent DoF, no perspective distortion so technically it's almost perfect. Almost... because the sunny 16 rule has one disadvantage: f16 is a small enough aperture to bring out dust on the sensor, if present. Well Hans, you'd better start cleaning ;o).
Also, maybe you could have used the highlight tool in PS to make the white building in the right a bit less bright. It's not disturbing though.

Reading or hearing different opinions about photography in general, and especially about your own work, makes us grow... and that is what TL is about, for me at least. Then, if by chance we meet each other, that's a nice side-effect ;o). And hey... wouldn't life be boring if everybody had the same taste? LOL

Hi hans
very nice shot
It looks like the place I live
it´s very similiar
GOOD Pov and colours

Hi Hans

Wonderful colour with superb sharpness & nice reflections in the canal. C'est magnifique! I like the muted colours. Tfs!

Hermosa arquitectura y fantásticos colores Hans.
Perfecto encuadre y estupenda nota.
Hasta pronto. Tfs, JL.

Hi Hans, this is postcard quality and the colours are perfect here. Sorry for Dingo in this ws, as they are oversaturated on my screen, this must be why sometimes, people think that my colours are not saturated enough :))

Your pov is very well done, great definition, and perfect composition.
And I prefer this kind of frame but hey, this is not important I think, different tastes for different folks :))

Very very well done! Take care, Yan :)

Ps: many thx for your great comment on "Joffre Lakes, Upper Lake of the 3 Lakes" and for your great support to help with the map. I am very happy to know how to make it work now.
BTW, if we had visited on the same year we might have seen each other ;)

Fantastic work Hans, love to see a million ancient bricks in the walls of those houses.
This one could not go wrong whichever way you present it, in a big black frame or with a small white frame!
TFS the sentiment and the picture,

Hello Hans,
Picturesque and beautiful!
Good point of view and fine composition, nice lead-in by the canal...
Colour wise the Nikon never lets you down, hehehe!

Hi Hans
Very beautiful composition, great irradiated. Details very well given back. Very well done.

Goed vastgelegd Hans !

Hello Hans,

Quick hello from India.
Congrats on crossing 20,00 points.
Beautiful, colorful view from Bruggs. TFS

nice and clean perspective of brugge
good POV

Hello Hans,
I had wanted to go back and catch some of your Brugge shots; they are all very good. Looks like a fascinating place for a photographer . . . you could stand in one place and take pictures all day, and as you pointed out, they'd be different from someone else's standing next to you!
Best regards,
