This is my entry for the Friday theme. It is my first attempt at more adventurous pp work. So, let the flaming begin! Anyway, this is an early evening shot taken from a restaurant pier on the island of Roatan. Our friends who had been there before had told us that it reminded them of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride because of the lights on the water. Roatan was in fact an early pirate hang out because only they could find their way in and out of the extensive coral reefs. Many of the restaurants are situated on individual piers which adds to the ambience of the place.

I shot this with my Canon Powershot A80 4MP P&S camera. Exposure time was 1 second. I held the camera down on a railing to steady it to avoid camera shake. One of these days I will bring a tripod with me! I cropped the top and bottom of the photo because they were just more sky and more water. I then saturated the sky on iPhoto. Then with Picasa I altered the color of the water to give more of a tropical moonlight effect. I finally used Gimp to add a star to the sky to relieve the overall sameness. I used the supernova filter set on minimum.

A beautiful place. I have been there only once and wish I could go back so many times sense. A great shot, a little dark and it loses some detail in the darkness but at night there is only so much light you can play with. TFS.

Hi Gilbert,

I enjoy seeing "blue hour" shots like this. the lights in the buildings contrast nicely with the blue dominance. There's some noise in the shot that can most likely be removed with a utility like Neat Image. There's a free version you can download that works well for me.

Have a good weekend.

Werner

Awesome note!

Hi Gilbert!

I'm so very happy that you have posted a Friday's theme photo. I get excited about it. ...of course, I'm easily excitable. I guess you've figured that out already.

You're the only fella I know who doesn't need to do pp work. You're captures are plug-in ready.

Awesome story about the pirates, and great evening scene. I love the blue.

Hi Gilbert,
Great panoramic view, well captured although a bit noisy. What photo program do you use? It must be able to decrease the noise and improve the image. Anyway, I do like the composition of this nocturnal view.
Hans

Hoi Gilbert,
A deep blue capture !
Remarkable good quality, despite the non-tripod capture it is sharp enough.
There seems to be a lot of noise in the sky. Maybe this is the result of the PP work. But the end-result is very good, and is a great addition to the friday theme.
Tfs

dear Gilbert,
this quiet and calm atmosphere in blue scene is nice,
deep blue sky and pale blue sea are beautifully contrasted,
and lights of houses and moon are mild and peaceful in it,
horizontal wide composition is effective too,
thank you fro your beautiful picture,
Akihisa

Hi Gilbert

I'm having internet connection problems, so won't be posting for a day or 2, unless I stay back at work on Monday & Tuesday. The wide angled panoramic format works well in this superb blue hour shot. Good sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Hello,
Perfect for the theme. Stunning composition. Well done.
Best wishes,
Achim

It looks so peaceful.
