[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This was taken at Harrison's Caves, which is a natural phenomenon. In these caves, there are stalactites and stalagmites which have been growing for many years. It is truly a remarkable site. There are even underground lakes and streams.
No serious exploration of the caves took place until the 1970's when Ole Sorenson, under the direction of the government surveyed the land and mapped the cave.
In 1981, Harrison's Caves were first opened to the public. It is now the number one attraction in Barbados, a mere 35 years after first being mapped. |
