菲律賓輝椋鳥屬雀形目(Passeriformes)椋鳥科(Sturnidae)，輝椋鳥之分布界域主要在印尼群島，西到緬甸、阿薩姆、印尼南部，東到菲律賓。居住環境為森林、農耕地和城鎮。輝椋鳥成鳥體長大約有17至20公分，紅眼、短方尾且黑羽。羽毛在陽光下會呈現閃動的綠色光芒。雄、雌鳥的外形類似，亞成鳥具有黑棕色的背部，淺黃和棕色條紋的腹部(Feare et al. 1999)。
