|Kandy is the cultural capital of the island of Sri Lanka and last Royal capital of of Sri Lanka. Surrounded by tall and almost impenetrable mountains all around, Kandy provided shelter for the ancient Sri Lankan Royal lineage against the colonial armies of Portugal, Holland and England for almost 400 years when ultimately in 1815 British forces aided by the Kandyan nobility that was dissatisfied with then ruling king entered the royal capital without resistance and captured the king, ending forever the Sri Lankan Royal dynasty.|
This photo gives an idea of the natural defenses that were presented to the colonial invaders when they tried to capture Kandy. Mist shrouded mountains of tropical forest which could be traversed only through a very few narrow passes that could be very easily defended. During the 400 years, many colonial armies entered Kandy but only a few returned back intact.
Present day Kandy is a one of the most pleasant cities in Sri Lanka to visit. It is full of monuments that are architecturally and religiously important. One of the finest botanical gardens in the world is also situated in Kandy.

Whenever I visit Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam etc, I love getting up into the mountains as a cool respite from the heat. The coconut palms add a tropical touch and the diffused light is excellent, with good sharpness also. Tfs!
Ciao Sunil, fascinating misty composition, wonderful soft colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
You got an immense mood into this scenic location, Sunil!
I like the clouds spread over the hill at far which adds drama into the scene. The sharpness and clarity is well shown, and the building (in the FG) gives nice sense of scale in the picture.
Bom dia sunil

You saw a good oportunity here to take a superb picture, the mist, the height of the shot, the slope of the land and the buildings dotted between the lush trees combine to make a very pleasing and interesting capture. I may have concidered cropped more sky but, this is still superb, very welldone Sunil. TFS
Hello Sunil ,
As suggested by Steve perhaps a little less sky nonetheless a perfectly acceptable image as is .
Do remember the city as very green and hilly back in the late 70's , your photo shows it hasn't changed one bit since then ,i would really like to see it and the rest of the country as well again someday , the Sri Lankans were formidable hosts i reckon , good job my friend, and thanks for sharing ,
