Wood carvings of Ambekke Temple which near the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka. The temple dates from 14th centaury and the carvings are considered finest in the island. The whole structure is of wood and tiles and is said to have been assembled without any iron or metal nails.

Although the temple’s origin dates back to the 14th centaury, the current structure must be more recent than that as wood will not last that long in the humid tropical climate. This is one of the more important archeologically significant sites that dot Sri Lanka’s cultural capital of Kandy.

Hi Sunil

I like the warm reddish yellow color tones of the wood & the superb carvings & textured relief. Good sharpness & a fine upward pov. Excellent shadow detail & diffused light. Tfs!

Hello Sunil.

Look may we strive to need loose the sight of wonderous things like this, the workmanship takes a while to sink in as to the hours they carved away at this. Love the angle used here with the light poping in to hi-light certain areas. Some bold wood has been used for sure. Well presented Sunil. TFS
