Two gold pigs at the Yonggungsa Buddhist Temple north of Busan on the south eastern coast of Korea.

"The magnificent Yonggungsa Temple, Busan is a must see in South Korea. Thousands of tourists as well as pilgrims from different parts of the country, come to visit Busan Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. The temple is located on top of a huge rock, jutting up from the ocean. The scenic beauty of the place, along with the architectural beauty of the temple, makes it a fascinating place where you would always like to come back. The sound of the East Sea ocean waves and the melody of sutra chanting from the temple, create a magical effect. Do not miss a visit to Yonggungsa Temple, Busan while Sightseeing in Busan.

Yonggungsa temple is situated on the north-eastern coast of Busan, in the Haedong area. This spectacular site houses a number of temples along the shoreline, and offers a rare and picturesque sight to visitors. The temple was founded in 1376, during the reign of Goryeo Dynasty of Korea. During the period of the Uwang dynasty, the great Buddhist preacher 'Naong', founded this temple on the sea shore. The temple was restored in 1970. Special attention was paid while choosing the colors of the exterior.

Yonggungsa Temple in Busan is one of the most beautiful Buddhist Temples in Busan, with dozens of statues and sculptures. 'Hakeupbul' is a Buddha statue, who is known for his blessings, for the success of his studies, and 'Deuknambul' is a statue of Buddha, allowing the birth of an offspring. On entering the premises, you will see a cave on the right hand side. There is the Gulbeop Buddhist sanctum inside the cave. Its unique design is sure to capture your eyes. Visit the three-story pagoda with 4 lions located in front of the main sanctuary. These four lions symbolize sadness, anger, joy, and happiness. Along with these, you can also visit 'Haesu Gwaneum Daebul', or Seawater Great Goddess Buddha, Daeungjeon Main Sanctuary, and Yongwangdang Shrine, at the temple complex.

While climbing up the 108 steps, stop midway to enjoy the breathtaking view of the ocean. Yonggungsa Temple in Busan is best visited in April, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The birth of Buddha, which is also celebrated in April/May, is another reason why you should visit this place. During the festive season, the temple and surrounds offers a picturesque night view, as the stone lanterns lining the rocky landscape are lit with electricity. People also visit the place on New Year's eve, to make a wish and enjoy the spectacular vista of sunrise over the East Sea. Indeed, Yonggungsa Temple, Busan, is one of the premier Tourist Attractions in Busan, where nature is more prominent than religion."

Hi Chris,
I like this spontaneous capture of these giant 'moneyboxes'!
Very beautiful gold color tones despite the mid-day lighting from above!
I like the low POV against Asian ambient architecture.
Nice photography of such a simple, yet, artistic presentation.
Well done,

Francis Xavier

HI Chris
Its actually funny to see the bank in front of the pigs.
Would'nt these two make great piggy banks?
They obviously did not know the story of the three little pigs as one of them is missing...
On a more serious side you did a good job on the capture.
Dot
