A solitary rock that has been eroded by the sea from the limestone cliff at right. Taken at Cadlao Island in the Bacuit Archipelago. Snorkeling here was nice with coral & colorful tropical fish. I liked the graphism here from the strong back-lighting, with the sunlight coming from behind the rock. Also a bit of sidelight from the left lighting most of the cliffs at right.

Just noticed this was taken on the 1st of January, so a lucky coincidence for the 1 theme!

Looks like an amazing place and that sea looks beautiful, I love the rock shapes against the bright colours of the sea. From a critique point of view, personally I would prefer just a touch more light in the central rock to bring out the details a little more. Maybe the detail could be dragged out a little in PS a little more as a separate layer?

OláChris
The textures and colors are very appelative. The rock seem to came out from image, also the unique place make this photo a real ONE. Good focus, sharpness and beauty.
( i am curious about the WS)
Um abraço

Bom dia Chris,
A beautiful entry to the Theme.
I like the low POV resulting in a profound depth that opens our eyes to the heavenly place.
Perfect sharpness, lighting and colors.
Nice scenario.

Hello Chris,
You've beautifully caught one moment from the nature. The artwork done by the sea and wind is looking interesting. Fine composition in a broad day light, well done my friend. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Chris,

Yes, this is a very nice and peaceful shot. Your compo (thirds) and colors make this very appealing. I think Miles makes a good point regarding exposure and detail on the solitary rock formation. My monitor here at work displays toward the dark side anyway, so I may not be viewing it properly :P

I'd try a workshop, but don't have my toolbox with me.

Cheers,
Werner

Hi Chris:)
It is not only good as today's theme but also great place to do some nice shots - beautiful work here, my congrats.
Tom:)

Love the focus and colors you achieved in this landscape shot, Chris!
A perfect contribution to Friday's theme.

The sharpness and POV are excellent.
Well caught!

Have a nice weekend.

Greetings,

Bonsoir Chris

Oh yes what a coincidence, a photo taken on 01.01.2011 to the theme of 11.11.2011.
I find this very great.
A one isolated rock sculpted by the sea, it is really beautiful, the pov respects a good balance and highlights it.
Like the color management and nuances of blue, green.
There's also a nice lighting.
Bon week end

Hi Chris, good combination, date as well as subject, perfect for the theme.I like your angle for this composition & your capture of the natural light, which from its angle behind the rock, made it almost a sihouette. That smooth foreground sandy beach, sure looks inviting. What makes the water appear that green, that close to the beach, its beautiful?I wondered, after reading captive-light's critique, how the composition would change by making the rock have more detail, so did a WS,just to compare,& I think it takes away some of the strength of your original?
Regards
Ron

Hi Chris, the large solitary rock is an interesting shape; I like its position in the composition.
The details of the cliff are sharp, and the plants and trees add extra colour to your scene. The sea and beach look wonderful, I guess that the sea is quite warm here?
An original idea for the theme, I like the variety that themes always bring.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Good morning Chris,

Unusual for the coincidence of this image and the theme of the day.
Superb solitary rock like fungi that we see as the Upi Bay in N. Caledonia Isle of Pines.
Nice control of light, with that wonderful turquoise waters and interesting details here and there.
Good job ordered. TFS Well done
Beautiful Weekend.
Regards.

Yolande

Okay, you win! I'll go visit my old country soon. Awesome capture of this beach scene. The water look so clean and inviting. Sharp details and wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

Coincidence or not Chris you were there and i was not ! How wind and wave action can erode a chunk of rock right off the main boulder , not done overnight of course but it's quite impressive nonetheless , time is the factor proving that our earth is in constant evolution geology wise wherever you stand on it , it is well demonstrated here , i like the swirling wave around the base of the solitary rock , nice greens too , well observed and composed photograph for the theme ,
Cheers,
Carol

Bonjour Chris
What wonderful colours; nice pov and no doubt very amazing landscape

The colors are amazing !

Hi Chris,

The cliff and the sea are framing well the rock. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the solitary rock. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Chris,

You're capturing well this seascape and rock/cliff by a good composition and beautiful color tone/combibation, so it's impressive and interesting to see clean sea with green and blue as well as a big rock with unique shape. The whole is harmonized well by color balance and arrangement of each objects. And, a peninsula seen far away gives an additional good effect in this image, too.

mikio

Hi Chris.

An incredible scene, the colours of the water in contrast with the ruggedness of the rock just oozes attraction to be there and feel the sand and the sun, well taken, have a good wekend.
