[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This region had its driest Spring in decades, so the grass is mostly a sickly shade of yellow brown & pale green. Only in the distant valley, is the grass a lush shade of green.

Another Mongolian landscape here, where a lot of burning & dodging was required. Taken near midday, as the short shadows illustrate. Usually easier to shoot early morning or late afternoon, but I had already hiked over the distant hill in the bg, & had 4 hours of daylight to get back. I liked the graphism of the grotesquely shaped rocks here. Taken in Terelj National Park 50 km ne of Ulan Bator.

I like the high contrast in the foreground shadowed rocks versus the sunny landscape. A strong effect very cleverly handled by your settings and PP.
A great image.

Hi Chris,

I like your description of the rocks, they are a bit unusual. It is a beautiful scene, with the rocks and parched foreground contrasting with the mountains in the background. Difficult lighting conditions, but this turned out nicely.

TFS and have a nice weekend.

Werner

Hello Chris,

A very barren and wild looking region, obviously made even more barren by the lack of rain. Your composition, using the rocks in a diagonal line, splits the scene nicely into f/g and b/g, whilst the vivid green strip assists in guiding the eyes across the frame.
The sun appears very strong but you have controlled the light well.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris - Another great view of a fantastic landscape that most of us will never see. Good pp work on what must have been difficult conditions!

Hi, Chris -
These mongolian landscapes are incredible. I really like the composition with the dark, shaded rock formations in the foreground and the rolling mountains beyond. Very, very sharp throughout with wonderful warm tones and hues. Excellent.
