The first post in the New Year...The last one just seemed to zoom past!

On a different track totally- Was getting back home, last evening and on the road saw a lady/girl of about 16. She was very very very poor, she had a mental handicap, whatever little clothing was on her frail body wasnt enough(for the cold or otherwise). My thoughts were with her for a very long time..which actually isnt enough. I am not saying I am going to do what Budha did a few years back ...All my own problems suddenly seemed so small.

Just a few seconds and some spinning thoughts, was all it took to resolve that I should be complaining a LOT less.

Hi Lakshmi,
what a thoughtful note in this festive time.
I also think, one should hold on for a moment, to reflect on the problems of others. I just exchanged the same thoughts yesterday with a member on TE ... can you imagine, that also in Germany, one of the richest countries in the world, more and more people are living on the streets ... living on what they receive by begging only ... homeless.
In India poverty is still so much more visible than here - and I remember very sorrowful moments, but as well - many joyous moments!
Even having to live on an absolute minimum, I have very often seen a smile, a glance, and a warm heart. And on the other side, some people in Germany run around grief-stricken, when they realize they can't afford another fancy luxury, not content or not realizing the value of what they already have.
You are so right, Lakshmi, we should all complain a LOT less, and look at what we have instead of endlessly looking at what we desire.
So, in that terms, your picture is a very nice illustration and symbol of life, spinning around, but in need of permanent impulses to keep on spinning, it's all "in our hand". Very well done!
I wish you and the ones near you,
to be able to fulfill their hopes,
in a very happy New Year -

naya sal mubarak ho!

A few spins and the thought has become a matter of the past just like this toy that will need another touch of hand to keep going.

Technically, it looks good even though I would personally like to see a greater saturation of the colored part.

But it means so much that she stayed in your thoughts, Lakshmi. These thoughts eventually move us to action, in some form or another. In this case, you're making a lot of us think, as well, and who knows what can come of that?! Reminds me of the movie, "Pay it Forward." I wish everyone could/would be kind.

I like this photo, and I like all the space you left around the spinning top. Thanks for bringing it and your thoughts to us.

Gayle :)

Hi Lakshmi
This picture reminds me of my childhood, my uncle use to make these for us kidís around Christmas time and we would be thrilled with this simple but beautiful toy.

I like the shallow dof & partial desaturation, but the thumbnail doesn't do this justice. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the top was resting on a mans' hand, rather than a grey 'something'. Good work & tfs.

Hi Lakshmi, this girl is very clever with this spinning top. I am sorry for the girl.

I wish you the very best for 2006 and many many more beautiful photos :)
