The old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong was in operation from 1925 to 1998. It was situated in the densely populated Kowloon and where some spectacular and involved last minute manoevres known in the piloting community as the Hong Kong turn. Upon take off and another lands.

Hello Erwin,
I passed through Hong Kong a few times but that was after 1998 and I was not aware of the former existence of Kai Tak Airport. Thank you for making me aware of it. It made some interesting reading. I enjoy the clarity of your photo and the deliberate tilt which makes the plane go uphill and slow down on landing :). I am amazed that big planes were ever allowed to land and take off there under such dangerous conditions. Best wishes.
