[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
An egret flying off with a freshly caught river fish. Tracking a bird in flight is very challenging and rewarding when you get a keeper. The timing aside, proper technique is vital to getting a sharp shot with the correct exposure. I always shoot in manual despite some who swear by the AV mode. I find manual shooting mode gives me the utmost control in how the final image turns out, provided I composed correctly and picked the right moments to capture. The exposure meter does get fooled now and then, especially shooting white feathered birds. Therefore I always underexpose by -1 EV or -1.3 EV by increasing the shutter speed accordingly while keeping the aperture at f-stop 6.3- ensuring the DOF is kept as shallow as possible to blur the Bg. WB was set to Sunlight and ISO kept to 200-400 max. Hope this info helps those aspiring birders and please feel free to share your thoughts and tips as we are always learning and improving ourselves through time and experience....
